Taking the snapshot of your screen is one of the easiest ways to copy, save, and share something like news stories, movie reviews, or recipes. Snipping Tool is a computer application that does the same. You can use it to capture, save and share a snapshot of your computer’s screen. This tool allows you to capture the entire or specific content of your screen, add notes, save the snapshot, and email it form the tool window.



Using this tool, you can capture any of the following types of snips:

Free-form Snip: This feature will allow you to draw a free-form shape around an object.

Window Snip: Select a window, like a dialog box or browser window that you want to capture.

Rectangular Snip: Move the cursor around an object to form a rectangle and take a snapshot in rectangular shape.

Full-screen Snip: This feature will be helpful to capture the entire screen.

Once you capture a snip, it will be automatically copied to the Tool window and now, you can annotate, save, or share the snip. Below the entire process of using the use Snipping Tool is explained, you just need to follow the steps:

  1. How to Open Snipping Tool

To open the Snipping Tool for Windows 10, click on the search box on the taskbar and type Snipping Tool inside the box, and then click on Snipping Tool.


Windows 8.1 / Windows RT 8.1 users need to swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap on Search option or if you’re using a mouse, drag the cursor to the lower-right corner of the computer screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click on the Search option. Type Snipping Tool in the search box, and then tap/click on Snipping Tool.


To find the Snipping Tool in Windows 7, Click on the Start button, type Snipping Tool in the search box, and click Snipping Tool option in the list of results.

In Snipping Tool, tap/click on the arrow next to the “New Button”, select the type of snip you want, and then choose the area of your screen to capture the snapshot.

  • Choose the Options button in the Snipping Tool.
  • In the Snipping Tools Options box, uncheck the checkbox Include URL below snips (HTML only) check box, and then click/tap on OK button.

Once you have captured a snip, click or tap on the arrow next to the Send Snip button, and then pick an option from the list.
